Swim, Bike, and Run your Age!
If Not Now, When?

Well, I'm a bit slow getting signed in here. Roman's been nudging me for a while, especially after I asked about my B-Fit Challenge challenges.

This year I turn 40. No worries there. That means a 4-mile swim, 10-mile run and 40-mile bike. Easy enough, right?

Well, the challenge that I had, which I was discussing with Roman, is that on my 40th birthday I'll be in the midst of an all-expense paid trip to Baghdad, Iraq. I'm not sure on the swim facilities, so I approached Roman about extending my marathon-focused year (the Iraq trip falls smack-dab over the entire tri season). Apparently I wasn't the only one to ask, so he decided to add the B-Fit B-Day Runner's Challenge option.

So here's the plan, in all its simplicity: On September 24, 2008, I intend on going for the gold with a 40-mile run.

Late September in Baghdad usually means lows of 75 and highs of 95. I've been looking at it and think I'll be able to pull off starting at just after midnight and hopefully finishing before mid-morning when it starts to get to warm.

I've already coordinated with those that I'll be working with, so barring any unforeseen events, I should be able to pull it off.

Wish me luck!

@Roman,

I'm sure it can be done. I've laid the groundwork with those I'm replacing. They think I'm nuts, but they know me, so they know I'll try.

Good Grief 40 miles on a dreadmill would be beyond the limit of human endurance.

If they can run the Boston marathon in Iraq, I'm sure you can figure out a way to run 40 around the confines safe base.

I hope you are staying at a safe base!

@TriDummy - The goal is all outside. A treadmill for 2 miles drives me insane, much less 40.

Sure, there'll be some obstacles, but that's part of the challenge.

You going to be doing this on a treadmill or on the pavement/gravel/sand?

I would say this is going to be a 40-mile obstacle course if it's outside!!!
