Swim, Bike, and Run your Age!
If Not Now, When?

Karen

KC - The Rest of the Story-It is finished! I did it!

Day 4, 5, 6, and 7 On day four, I swam 2000 yards, time 58 minutes. I decided then that I was going to swim the distance in miles. I also promised myself that if I finished everything, I'd have my husband take a photo of me in the classic "putting on the goggles in the pool" pose. It was an absolutely beautiful day and it was going to be the last day of good weather, so I got off work early, met my husband at home and we took off on our bikes to get in as many miles as we could before it got dark. Now the time was slow, but we also wanted to enjoy the beautiful fall day plus I was beginning to wear down from the long day. We got in 26 miles before we ran out of daylight, only 4 more miles to go. I'll have to do that in the gym -- should be bearable. 2 hours for the bike.
On day five, I swam another 2000 yards - time 55 minutes.
Day six, I got up early went to the pool and swam 1500 yards. Day six was Saturday, I could finish everything up, but I want to celebrate my birthday with a victory swim, so I saved 750 yards to do on Sunday. I still had four miles left to bike and had to bike that after swimming because all of the bikes were already taken when I got to the Y. So in a wet swimsuit, I toweled off and put on my clothes to bike. Bike 4 miles, time 24.05.
Day 7 - is a piece of cake. The Y opens at 1:00 and I was in the pool to swim my 30 celebration laps! My husband was there to take my offficial picture and my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids were sitting in the stands to cheer me on. This made me happy. 750 yards in 24 minutes. Finished completed!
Now I know my times are not the best, but these are major accomplishments for me. In July, if someone would have told me I was going to do this, I probably would have replied - in your dreams! But this was a first step for me and I'm happy. It is a good way to celebrate your birthday. Two years ago on my birthday, I was admitting my father into a nursing home and by December, I was holding his hand for the last time. Today, I celebrated my life and everyone in my life. Thank you to my husband Jim and my family and friends who encouraged me along the way.
Things I would do differently
I would push myself a little harder. I found out, I can do more than I thought I could.
Plan better.
Next year, I'm goin' for silver.
Truly, we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
