Just completed my 5,000 yard swim, coming in just under the wire for the 24 hours. Yesterday's bike ride was brutal with a nasty wind. Out of 54 miles, half should have been a tailwind, right? Mother Nature toyed with me, though. I pushed the wind for 27 miles, got about 10 miles of tailwind on the way back and then it shifted and picked up, giving me a 30 mph cross wind that eventually became a headwind. I was not amused. Nice run in the dark this a.m., though.

Can too much rabies make a living thing aggressive? That's what I've been thinking for days after watching [REC] at a film festival. This Spanish film scared the wits out of me. I was unable to do my research papers and
custom essays because of it.
According to some research papers, those infected with rabies suffer from fever, depression and moments of lethargy. These symptoms weren't shown by the victims of th…

Whenever I feel like life is being rude to me, I always try to lift my spirit up through thinking and then counting my blessings. I always try to be positive and not to complain.
I am one of those freelance
essay writers. I have no permanent or full-time job. The recession really hit had on me. Of course, I envy my friends who have established their careers somehow already. I envy the fact that while I'm at…

I was trying to do a homework for english class when I saw the news ticker applet on my computer. It said that Michael Jackson had died. While I don't know him personally, I was still affected by it, because I'm a big fan of his works.
I stopped doing the homework and just scoured the internet in order to know more about his death. On the course of my research, I saw how many people were as sad as I was about the news of his passing. I realized that yes, he had rough patches in his life, but th…

It was a good day.
Turning 42 was not my favorite thing to do but with the fitness challenge - why not? I took the day off from work to get all of this done in one day.
I got up at 5:20 and was at the pool and in the water by 5:45am. I swam 2000 yards in 56:24 before heading home and taking the kids to school. I have a 2 mile running loop around the house so that was the easy part. 2 miles - 17:50 (a sub 9 min/mile pace with no warm up). Then back to the pool. My back and shoulders were lettin…

I posted the wrong swim time. I finished in 1:40 not 1:20. Forgot to add the last 800 meters.

Hopefully completing part of the bike ride on a trainer qualifies. Only able to get 25 miles on my mountain bike this morning due to inability to ride my road bike in the 25 degree, 20 mph north wind snow covered roads (which were completely dry last night). I finished the 16 miles on my trainer and just got done with a 2.5 mile run. Totals: 5050 yards after work on 1/9/09 in 2 hours 15 minutes with rest (done by 1000's with the last being 1050 - 13:15, 12:45, 12:35, 13:15 and last 1050 in 14:15…

We've all read various reports on races and other challenges. So I've decided to mix this up a bit. Somewhere near the bottom of this will be the details of my Platinum Challenge. But first, a few "lessons learned" from the experience.
1. Starting the challenge at 5 p.m. after a day of work, and aiming to finish the challenge before 9 a.m. the next day is a bit aggressive. To avoid this, consider taking a day off from work (or using a weekend).
2. December 30th-31st is probably a bad choice of…

Today I took the B-Fit Challenge. . I did the gold challenge. I'm turning 27 so I swam 2,000 yards, biked 27, and ran 7 miles. Here is the break down.
The swim was simple nonstop 2,000 yard. I did it 28:50. That is a pace of 1:26 per hundred yards.
The bike was an out and back for 27 miles. The route was kinda an 'N' shaped (if that makes since). So I would have a head wind for a few miles then tail wind for a while and then a head wind and then a tail wind. Total time on the bike was 1:32:01.…

There are no pretty pics (I wasn't in the mood) but I managed to linp my way through the Gold challenge and the tale of woe is
hiding here.
I think I'm still recovering.
At least I've got 12months before the big 4-0 ;-)
Time to start training.

Just a quick note to say bfitday tri is complete and I'm still in one piece just.
It's a long story so will have to wait until I've more time, but lets just say that having 7 weeks off and then returning to training with a bang has been an interesting experience.
Yesterday I did a Duathlon which was followed by a Christmas Party with a 3am finish and just 3.5hrs sleep.
Just getting through the day has been as tough mentally as any of my 5 Ironman races.
Now I just need to eat and sleep becau…

So back in August for my training buddies 41st b-day we did our
first b-day challenge. It was a nice, sunny day. We swam OUTSIDE, rode OUTSIDE, and ran OUTSIDE. Today, that was NOT possible. Snowed most of the day. Did that deter? Heck no. We did our 4 miles in the pool (just under 3 hours). Then we set up the bike/trainers in front of the big screen and rode while watching Ironman CdA, Ironman Kona, and Ironman St Cro…

Aha, I'm back exploring the pages of bfitday.com which must mean it's nearly time for torture.
Hell, why is my birthday in December, it's freaking freezing outside.
I've had 7 weeks of inactivity since screwing up my Ironman attempt in Florida, that alongside the fact that the weather is likely to be awful mean there will be no monster efforts or record attempts for this one.
I've 2 choices. Either a Gold attempt this Sunday (the day before my birthday) or a Silver attempt next weekend when I…

Who takes a vacation day to exercise? Me!
I heard about a fun, memorable way to celebrate a birthday -- a way that weaves the triathlon disciplines into the mix -- and I was on-board.
It's called bfit birthday, and basically the goal is to achieve a gold, silver or bronze medal by swimming, biking and running a certain distance based upon your age.
I went for the gold. Here's what I had to do:
Swim 1,000 yards for every decade (2,000)
Bike (in miles) your age (29)
Run (in miles) the second…

November in Colorado and I had nearly 70 degree weather for my birthday challenge. It just doesn’t get better than that!
With 5 hours of exertion over a 9 hour period, I completed my B-Fit B-Day Challenge for year 35!
To get the full effect of how I got here, you have to go back 2 years. November of 2006 I was getting ready for my honeymoon cruise, which was a lot of fun, but not very good for the waistline. Even before the cruise, I was carrying excessive weight, but afterwards, I was startin…
