Kelly IM AZ Nov. 08 anyone?!

Hi again! (sorry about the HUGE picture...don't exactly know what happened!) Roman says he's doing IM AZ in November...anyone else? Do we have a group of B-Fitters who will be there? It will be my first Ironman (I've just completed my first Half IM, so this year is gonna be, well, pretty awesome!) I will be coming to Tempe with a group of almost 15 teammates from my sports club in San Luis Potosi, Mexico...hopefully I can meet some of you there! Take care, Kelly :) Continue

Jeff 4 days left!!

My first triathlon is in just a few days and I feel ready to face it. My wife, daughter and wife's parents are all going to be there as well. I'm not sure how much they'll be able to see; the routes are single loops, so it's not like I'll be passing one area multiple times, except of course for the transition area that is. Continue

Kelly Silver Challenge-40th birthday-Done!

NOW FOR MY FIRST HALF-IRONMAN!!!! Hello everyone! Just checking in to report on my BFitBDay.com Silver Challenge for my 40th birthday! I originally was to do the gold challenge, but as I have a half-ironman in a week, I decided to do the silver challenge for the sake of my now forty-year-old body! Neal Oseland Gold Achieved...in Colorado saltwater????

I love my birthday. I haven't worked on my birthday in almost 20 years. It's MY day to play. In birthdays past, I've run up Pikes Peak, done 7 hours rides and now, I've added this new element....the BFIT Bday challenge. This years was the most fun I've had with any of the birthday "treats" I give myself each year. As noted in a previous post, I was a tad concerned about the length of the swim. In addition to being behind the curve with swimming, I have horrible chlorine allergies. One of my clo… Continue

I'll start taking pictures and posting them tomorrow! Can't wait! :) Continue

Jan Musil Finished bike 36mi just before midnight

Do I get extra points for finishing the gold challenge in less than 12 hours? Just kidding. That was actually a goal that kind of evolved during the day. The big unknown was the swim and once I had it behind me and regained the balance (I was like off balance for an hour or so from being in horizontal position for so long). Anyways the bike is done I'll now go get some food to refuel and tomorrow I guess I'll take the race easier than usual. The bike time was 2:11:13. Continue

Jan Musil 6mi run done in 53:16:07

I took some time after the pool swim to eat something and have about an hour with my son before I laced-up and went out to pick-up my race packet for the 5k run tomorrow morning. It was so nice outside that I decided to take the long route and put in the whole 6 miles. I did not rush things and just cruised easy to the town and back. I wonder how I'll do on my run tomorrow. I'll definitely report that here. The activity is recorded on Garmin C… Continue

Jan Musil Swim complete 2:18:02

I was lucky, the pool was almost empty. During the peak hours there were 3 swimmers. Very cool. I swam at very easy pace to enjoy the afternoon and finished the swim in 2:18:02. I go out fr a run soon - it is still very nice and I need to pickup a race packet for tomorrow so I'll just run down there pick it up and run back. Should be just about 6 miles. And I'll be biking later in the evening. 36 miles on the bike sounds like nothing compared to the 3 mi swim... First time I swam this far. I did… Continue

Jeff Three weeks till my first Tri!!

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, been pretty busy with traveling for work. Training is going well and I am pretty happy with the 5 mile race in the Garden of the Gods that I ran in. I completed it in just under 48 minutes which put my pace at around 9.5 minutes per mile. That is not going to set any speed records, but since I haven't participated in any type of racing since high school, I am definitely happy with it. Jan Musil Hornet Juice test

I tested the first batch of the Hornet Juice this morning. The plan was to workout for about an hour on the bike with long warm-up and about 30 minutes of hill climbing at 65-75rpm. Mixed the juice with water and drank it few minutes before getting on the bike. The taste was not the best one, but also not the worst from all the supplements I tried so far. Some people may call it acquired taste. What I mean is that I can get used to it. The I hopped on the bike and although I was not sleeping muc… Continue

Patricia Finished the challenge!

Yesterday it was my birthday and I took the challenge of doing all 3 events within 24 hours on weekday when I had to work at least 6 hours. Other challenge of planning 4 miles swim, 9 miles run and 49 miles ride in Tucson in May is that it could be very hot so the hours available to do the run and ride become limited too. I will post a longer explanation about how my day went with pictures to illustrate the different venues I used. It is a great feeling to be done, it was a hard day and long day… Continue

Neal Oseland I forgot....this challenge requires a swim

I heard about the challenge on the Ironmantalk Podcast one day and it sounded like something to keep me going through the month of May (my bday is May 29th). My priority race for the season is Ironman Arizona in late November so I thought this would be a great motivator this "early" in my season. I thought this would be a breeze...just another training day. Well, I took on a challenge to swim 50k for the month of May. Gotta say....swimming 3 miles is not that fun in a pool. Get that out there. Off my chest. Good. I'm sooooooo glad I'm not in my 40's or 50's. When I get there....NO GOLD CHALLENGE FOR ME!!! :) The results for my 35th birthday... Swim: 2:06 Bike: 1:56 (18mph avg) Run: 41.12 (8:10-ish) Swim went okay...really dragged at the end. Pool swim, 102 laps. Not really much to say. Took a short break at 2 miles because I was pretty thirsty. Finished the final 34 laps. Got out and drove over for my bike… Continue

GG Iron Guy And I'm Golden

I thought the 3 mile swim was going to be the toughest of these distances, but due to a half marathon 2 days ago (I'm still walking stairs one at a time - graduated from walking down backwards though) my legs were not in the best shape and these 8 simple miles SUCKED big time! But first I went for a little bike ride. Great beautiful day out there. I took the day off of work for my challenge and must admit it was nice riding during the day while most people were at work. Skinny Post Challenge Thoughts: The Swim

Now that I have had time to sit back, relax, and reflect on the challenge, I have realized a few things. 1) A 3 mile swim isn't as scary as it sounded Actually, a 3 mile POOL swim isn't that bad. Open water would kill me. Sure, it took me through 3 separate lifeguard shifts, and I had tile marks pressed into my arms from leaning against the side, but with enough time and taking breaks, 3 miles is easily doable. 2) Technique is HUGE As I was training for this swim, I read all the… Continue

Patricia 4 days for the challenge

My birthday is on Thursday and for the B-fit bday to be a true challenge I have to do it in 24 hours, since every week I do more than my triathlon distances with my regularly schedule workouts and using my bike as mode of transportation. Bike: 27 miles; 1:32:34 Run: 7 miles; 55:42 Swim: 2 miles; 55:38 Total time: 3:23:54 Bike I had every intention to do my own triathlon on May 2 (the day after my birthday), but the weather was suggesting otherwise with a strong chance of rain on May 2. While I had originally planned on doing the silver challenge, which I thought would be challenging enough for me, someone on here (Beverly, I'm looking at you...) pointed out that it was my 30th birthday, on the 30th of the month, and that should be worthy of the Gold challenge. Never being one to turn down a challenge, I figured I would go for it, with the possibility of changing to the Silver if things weren't going right. I started out with the swim at about 11:45 am.
