From my blog post...
You know how a free meal always tastes better?? Well, I would pay big bucks for the Actyum helmet from Rudy Project. Not only does it match my bike like it was custom made for my bike, it fits my head like it was custom made for my head. Last year I was trying on a few helmets while shopping for a new bike seat and for $175+ there wasn't a single helmet that felt right...right for $175, anyway.
I like the retention system- which dials in the fit (a feature from my old helmet I didn't want to give up). I also like the flash of yellow for extra safety visibility on the road. And the chin strap cushion is a new feature to me- cushy! You see that yellow mesh below the outer structure? It is a bug stop, which is a cool feature all on its own, but it cradles your head like a pillow. Really. I'd sleep in this helmet.
Next up: the sunglasses. Now, I have a small face and finding the right fit of glasses is challenging. Choosing a style from a website...even more of a challenge. I looked over the selection and chose what looked like the smallest frame; the Graal.
How cool is a pair of sponsored athlete exclusive sunglasses? Yeah, they're pretty sweet. I would have been a poser in an aero helmet, but the glasses...I can do.
I have a pair of Nike glasses I wear for cycling. I generally wear a pair of Smiths for triathlon. Both fit alright. The Graal fits a little skewed on my face. One side is higher and I haven't been able to tweak it yet to bring my eyebrows back to the same level. Or move my right ear down 1/8". Looks alright from the profile- so remind me while I'm racing to turn my head to the side for the photographers.
Thanks again for the sponsorship through raceAthlete and the Bfit Bday Challenge. Get over there and sign up. There will be more sponsorship premiums offered each month!
Congrats on the B-day. Thanks for the comments on my video. The way I figure, I don't have a 'compelling' story, and have been blessed with a relatively easy life, so a little comedy might help me stand out!
cheers

amazing!!!! wow!!! you had a lot to deal with to prepare for this challenge!! (kids, work, sitters)---and a 10pm ride that lasted until after midnight??? WOW--WTG!!!!!
Quick report: Yesterday afternoon I asked my mom to put the kids down for a late nap- and it worked. I got the run in and first swim out of the way...around my surprise day early birthday dinner planned by my kids. Ohhh there was cake- triple layer chocolate amaretto cake! My mom loves me. I got on the trainer at 10pm and rode for 2:06:08. I use my GPS for distance on the bike instead of a bike computer and Garmin doesn't track distance in the living room. I knew I could ride at least 16mph so I threw in the 06:08 for the novelty of it. The kids had a late bedtime due to the late naps, so my son snapped a couple of pictures and both kids eventually fell asleep on the floor next to the trainer. Early morning out the door...the pool absolutely does not allow photography so I had to sneak a couple of lame shots on my way in and out. Finished up the swim before work. I'm falling asleep at my desk and my arms are jello and we'll probably be in bed by 8pm, but I got it done- and now I don't have to swim for months!
The Bronze, Silver and Gold challenges are open for you to take during your B-Day week. That means they are open the three days before your birthday, on your birthday, and the three days after your birthday.
You can take the Bronze Challenge on those seven days, or you can pick any three days of those seven to accomplish the Silver (as long as you finish within 72-hours), or any one of those days to go for the Gold (as long as you do all three events in 24-hours (for the Gold.)
This means you can go for Silver on any three days during you B-Day week....just as long you finish all three events in 72-hours.
This also means you can go for Gold on your Birthday, or the three days before, or after your Birthday....just as long as you do it all in 24-hours.
Please keep in mind that the swimmers mile is 1650 yards...a bit shorter than the real mile. Also if you want to be eligible for the Rudy Project sponsorship please document your swim, bike, run with photos and send me your times when you are all done.
I would really appreciate if you could promote and chronicle your challenge attempt on your Blog. Feel free to grab the B-Fit B-Day badge on the left side of the page.
