Thanks Man. We have our second due July 6th.
It is very cool to involve the little ones in training. I highly recommend letting mum sleep in on a Saturday or Sunday morning and taking the little one out for a long run. I have a stretch of about 10km of paving alongside the beach I run down. Good workout and good bonding with the kid.
Best of luck mate.

Well, thanks to Beverly, I have started my Gold challenge. And yes, the swim is complete. Ouch. I will blog more details later. Due to some stomach issues (again, more detail later), the bike is being done indoors. Its all set up, and ready to go. Just working on getting me ready to go again. Details to follow...

Hey for your swimming question. If b-fit b-day says a swimmers mile is 1500m then one mile is 30 laps (one lap is down and back) so 30 LAPS (or 60 LENGTHS which is only going to one side) that means you get to swim 90 LAPs for your b-day challenge. That sounds like fun... good luck! :)

About Me:
I stumbled across this site last year, and managed to complete the gold challenge. It was ugly. I was under-prepared, undertrained, under-fueled, and underequipped. After completing it, I have kept up my training somewhat, and really upped it lately as I am doing the HIM in Oliver, BC this year. The BFIT Challenge is being included in my training plan.

I have very little swimming in my background, so that is the biggest challenge for me. I have done a fair amount of cycling (nothing competitive thoush, just week-long charity rides), and used to run quite often. My cycling is going well, with motivation helped by the purchase of a new Trek TTX 9.5. The running and cycling are both limited by the horrible, unpredictable weather of the north coast area of BC. However, I am not against indoor training, and have been getting a decent amount of workouts in.

Moving back...

I am moving my blog posting back to my other blog ( http://brad-teamskinny.blogspot.com/ ). Not sure why I am doing that, but I am. I like to change things up every so often. Thats just the way I am.

The first posts over there will be on my thoughts on the bike portion of the challenge, followed thereafter by my thoughts on the run. Logical, no?

And I already added my Finishers Ribbon to the new site. YAY Me, I finished GOLD!!!

See you all on the other side....

Post Challenge Thoughts: The Swim

Now that I have had time to sit back, relax, and reflect on the challenge, I have realized a few things.

1) A 3 mile swim isn't as scary as it sounded
Actually, a 3 mile POOL swim isn't that bad. Open water would kill me. Sure, it took me through 3 separate lifeguard shifts, and I had tile marks pressed into my arms from leaning against the side, but with enough time and taking breaks, 3 miles is easily doable.

2) Technique is HUGE
As I was training for this swim, I read all the… Continue

Done. Finished. Complete. And only 363 days to go until the next one.

While I had originally planned on doing the silver challenge, which I thought would be challenging enough for me, someone on here (Beverly, I'm looking at you...) pointed out that it was my 30th birthday, on the 30th of the month, and that should be worthy of the Gold challenge. Never being one to turn down a challenge, I figured I would go for it, with the possibility of changing to the Silver if things weren't going right.

I started out with the swim at about 11:45 am. My wife came to the poo… Continue

T minus 11 hours or so...

If all goes as planned, by this time tomorrow, I will have completed the Gold challenge. If it doesn't go as planned, I will be laying in bed, full of Extra Strength Advil, trying to decide if I should finish it the following day. I think I like the first option better.

Tonight, I made sure my gear is ready to go. Bike is tuned up, new aero bars and bar tape installed. Looks fast (for a road bike). Water/gel bottles are clean, waiting to be filled in the morning. Ipod is being loaded with energ… Continue

Sprints Suck...

... or "Why Base Training is Inadaquate for a 2.5 km, All Out Sprint on a Downhill Mountain Bike".

Wow, one week to go, and I am feeling COMPLETELY unprepared. The world is conspiring against my training plan. Oh well, thats life.

Last week, after fighting off a cold, I had a couple good days of training, and was planning on a couple good rides / runs at the end of the week. Then work went and got in the way. BIG TIME.

I normally work two day shifts (10 hours long, starting at either 6 am or… Continue
