This morning I knocked out my Gold Medal Run, which was 40 miles to celebrate my turning 40.

It was a beautiful night and morning for a 40-miler. As you can see in the report, I actually ended up running 41.5 miles just so my Garmin would show the 40.0 that I needed. That's the last time I hit the stop button on my Garmin when I take a potty break. I never do that and I don't know why I decided to this time. But it hosed me a bit.

7:15:57 total run time

I was feeling very strong until mile 36, then the wheels fell off. But by that point, I knew I'd finish and just kept that forward movement. And just to make it that much more interesting, I threw in an off-course hill at mile 39, which is a long steady 1/4 mile climb. Coming back down didn't feel so good, though.
