Hey all,
Birthday: August 6th, 1990
So I woke up and knew that this birthday was going to be special, even though I didn't have a party planned or a trip to go on or anything like that...it would be great. Well I have always done something athletically involved on my birthday, starting back on my 14 when I got my first road bike. I went on a nice bike ride and did the same thing the next year, my 16th was a nice run and the a visit to the town's homecoming, and my 17th was a swim because well, I was a lifeguard and there was not much else to do during the day! However, this year I was glad raceAthlete came up with the B-Fit B-Day triathlon because now I have enough experience and have done self-supported triathlons before. I really love this concept and encourage everyone to take on one of the three challenges and do something healthy and positive for yourself! I would love to get my mom to do the bronze challenge at least for her birthday in October...her goal is to do a full on/ official triathlon before she turns 50 so we have a little bit of time at least!
So my day began with eating a little bit of breakfast, warming up my muscles with my TP massage kit and making sure all my gear was ready to go. I started at 11:05AM and I did my 18 mile around some backgrounds in Bexar county and then headed home to gear up for the run. I did not realize how much I had sweated before I left for the 8 miles...
Alright so here's what happend...I went out for my run and at about four miles in, I began experiencing severe heat related issues, my legs didn't cramp they just began to ache and each step became quite painful, I wanted to drink more water but if I did it just sloshed in my stomach, so I sent out a distress call and got picked up. I promised myself I would finish the rest of the run within the 24 time frame I set and this morning I did along with my 1 mile swim. (My neighborhood pool is always closed on Wednesdays, so I made sure I did it this morning) I think I disrespected how hot it really was yesterday afternoon but I paid the price for it in pain the rest of the day.
Anyhow, the good news is that I finished.
Here are the times...
Swim 1 mile: 32 minutes 14 seconds
Bike 18 miles: 1 hour 10 minutes 20 seconds (hills)
Run 8 miles: 1 hour 18 minutes 23 seconds (hills, heat, and trails!)
Total time: 3 hours 57 seconds
You know what, kudos to anyone who completes the 4 mile swim for the gold challenge...wow!
It was a lot of fun and I will definately make this a tradition from now on! :-)
Pictures and a video slideshow soon to come...
