Swim, Bike, and Run your Age!
If Not Now, When?

I did it. It wasn't pretty, it wasn't fast, it won't win me any races, but I completed all three events (3 mile swim, 30 bike, 10 run) within 24 hours. Actually, 15 to be precise.

Swim (previous longest distance at one try was about 1500 m): 3:59, including a 20 minute sauna break at half way.

Bike (switch to indoors due to weather and GI problems from my swim fueling strategy): 1:40, including changing movies, dealing with GI problems, etc.

Run (previous long run 6 miles, and never ran after swimming / biking any significant distance): 2:45, including an emergency trip home (again, fueling issues)

I will be updating my blog on here with pictures, videos (I think they worked, haven't had the energy to check yet), and my thoughts, including things I learned during this challenge. And I learned a lot (for example, never try out a new brand of gel on race day. Heard that one before, didn't bother listening. Won't make that mistake again...)

I'm sorry to have to tell you this but a sauna break means that you are officially DQed....NOT.

Just Kidding.

Terrific work, great Challenge and Happy B-Day.

That's a hell of a long swim AND run.

You are officially uber fit.

That would be German for beyond fit.

Congrats!

Sure wasn't feeling fit struggling through that run. And everyone that I have told about it since is questioning my mental fitness...

Sounded like you had a pretty good birthday. Triathlons are so much fun! I am glad that you got a sauna break. I wish I had a sauna at my pool :(

Congrats to you and look forward to seeing the pictures.

congrats on your challenge! I thought the 3 mile swim was hard as well. It pushed me to join Masters to get better. :) I find any big personal challenge like this always teaches me some hard lessons...

happy bday!

I just can't wait until next year. I get to trade one extra mile on the bike (no problem), for nine less miles of running, and the same swim with a full year to train for it (much better than the couple months I had this year).

You are my hero!! It's tough to fight through gels that don't agree with you. I think most of us have been there with nutrition at some point so good on you for pushing through. Congrats and more importantly, Happy Birthday!!

I'm going to start using gel all the time. Early shift at work? Gel for breakfast. Going for groceries? Better have a shot of gel, don't want to bonk in the produce aisle. Then maybe my stomach will learn to like it a little more...
